CLASSIC SOUL

About The Dr.
Dr. Warren “Doc” McDonald, Classic Soul’s resident professor, has been around the Beach Music scene his entire life. He founded the group, The Expressions, in the late 1960s, and they quickly became very popular across North and South Carolina, and beyond. This outstanding group also had the privilege of working behind and opening for many of the top touring groups of the day, including the Drifters, the Coasters, the Temptations and Four Tops, Clifford Curry, and many more. He was an early collaborator in the Emerald Isle Beach Music Festival, and has performed with many of the top names in Beach Music. Prior to starting Classic Soul he was privileged to perform in the final iteration of the Fabulous Kays, as well as the Coco Loco Party Band.
Doc’s early influences are founded in the smooth harmonies found in 60s soul. People like Sam Cooke, Motown’s Temptations and Tops, The Impressions, Spinners, O’Jays, and many others. He also loved several of the early British invasion groups, especially the Beatles and Dave Clark 5. He developed close relationships with many influential artists on the Beach circuit, particularly Jackie Gore and Clifford Curry, both who have been special friends and mentors for many years. Clifford has now passed, but Jack remains, and it was important to recognize his influence and tutelage in this bio. Doc is, and has always been, a Beach Music artist, and his goal is the keep that music alive, ergo the name, Classic Soul!
The group’s first CD After All These Years included many hits on various Beach Music charts. High Blood Pressure is on the regular play rotation at stations all across the South, and Cry to Me made it to number one on Cash Box Beach Music Top 40, remaining there for a number of weeks. A new CD will be published in early 2021 and we look forward to getting new material to our fans.

Keith Pollard
Keith started playing music around 1972 in a hometown band called “Harmony, Inc”, playing bass guitar and singing. Later, he was in a group while in college, playing oldies and Motown. In the 80’s, he joined some former members of the Castaways, a group called “Split Image”, also playing oldies and Motown, along with Country and some hits of the time.
During this time, he met Beach Music Hall of Fame member Al Williams and they, along with Ron Stancil and Charlie Clark, formed “Time Machine” band. Keith played keyboard and trumpet for over 15 years with this group. This led to a move to work with “Tommy Black and Blooz”, and finally “The Carolina Breakers”. He has recorded such hits as “I Love You 1,000 Times” (Cammy nominated), “Beach Boogie and Blues” (written by him), “I’ve Been Lovin You Too Long” and “You’re The One”.
Keith is the music director at his church. He enjoys golf and working on old cars. He’s proud to be working with Classic Soul, and we’re thrilled to have this new addition. This man bring a new voice, and new energy.
